“I don’t know how to journal”

Some of the smartest people I know don’t have a clue how to ‘journal’. To them, journal is a noun; but to some, it has become a verb; an action word, TO DO…

The good news is you don’t need anything fancy to journal and no one ever has to see, read or experience your private thoughts. This is for you to get reaquantied with your best friend: YOU!

Remember you? The incredibly motivated person who got you this far? Wouldn’t it be great to understand them again? To know what inspires you, excites you, even upsets you? Wouldn’t it be easier to relate to other people if you can understand yourself?

Here’s the way:
-Get a pen and a notebook or piece of paper. Set aside 5 -20 minutes daily (Daily practice will be habit quicker but shoot for consistency)
-Sit in an inspiring location. This is different for everyone. Some like it quiet, some prefer background music, voices… It can also just be a comfortable chair in your bedroom.
-The easiest thing to do is start by writing about your day or your current ruminating thoughts in your mind. Don’t expect so much from the initial journaling days. Just be present and non-judgemental towards yourself. Things may become obvious immediately but sometimes, it takes time with yourself. You should feel ‘better’ after a session, hopefully more present and calm. If you don’t, you may need more time per session OR need to speak with a friend, coach or therapist if the issue is quite upsetting. Keep in mind, it is never a sign of weakness to need help! Especially in the medical field.
-Let me know if this helps!
